How do we sequence and compare genomes? How do we identify the genetic basis for disease? Through this specialization, I learned how to answer many questions such as these in modern biology through computational approaches. In the process, I learned about the various algorithms and software tools that thousands of biologists apply at work every day in one of the fastest growing fields in science. I learned genomic data science and clustering, molecular evolution, genome sequencing and much more. To wrap up the specialization, I completed a Bioinformatics Capstone in Big Data Biology in addition to the 6 other advanced courses.
I have completed a course offered by Stanford University where I learned under Professor Andrew Ng. This course introduced me to various Machine learning Algorithms and helped me master the analytical side of Machine Learning. Some of the countless algorithms I learned were Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines, and Neural Networks. These algorithms were very influential in the projects that I completed as they helped me construct the models and analyze the performance of these models.
I have completed a course offered by the University of California San Diego under Professor Pavel Pevzner. Within this course, I learned about Genomic Replication and Ori Finding using Python and various computational tools, as well as motif finding in order to locate the "clock gene" or the circadian gene which regulates time within our bodies. I learned how to implement various bioinformatics methods and computational tools during this course.
